NEW DELHI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The local government in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has formed an expert advisory committee to monitor and assess the potential impact of a strong El Nino weather phenomenon this year, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said Friday.
The committee has been asked to suggest steps to meet the challenge and mitigation measures.
According to AIR, the seven-member expert advisory committee will function during 2026-27 and 2027-28.
India's meteorological department has predicted that El Nino is likely to strengthen further during the October-December 2026 season and may reach a very strong category. ■
