Update: China calls on Kuwait to take effective steps to protect safety of Chinese institutions: spokesperson

BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- China has urged relevant departments of Kuwait to take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese institutions, said a foreign ministry spokesperson after a Chinese company building in Kuwait was reportedly hit by a strike.

"According to verified information, no Chinese citizens were affected," spokesperson Mao Ning told a regular press briefing, adding that China has reminded Chinese citizens and institutions in Kuwait to strengthen risk awareness and safety precautions.

China finds any attack on innocent civilians and non-military targets unacceptable, and calls on all relevant parties to exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, to restore peace and stability in the Gulf region at an early date, said the spokesperson.  ■
